High-Performance Computing Infrastructure
01 — Future Infrastructure
Bihar Mausam Sewa Kendra

BMSK's upcoming High-Performance Computing system will fundamentally transform forecasting capability in Bihar. Designed to run WRF models, fog-prediction algorithms (with NCAR), hydrological simulations, and ensemble forecasts, the HPC will produce high-resolution district- and block-level predictions tailored to Bihar's climate. It will assimilate observations, satellite products, and global model data to generate short-, medium-, and long-range forecasts. Automated verification, bias correction, and continuous calibration will enhance reliability — positioning BMSK as a leading centre for advanced atmospheric science in eastern India.

02 — Observation Network
Bihar Mausam Sewa Kendra

To enhance real-time monitoring of atmospheric conditions and improve the accuracy of severe weather forecasts, BMSK plans to establish a Hybrid Doppler Weather Radar Network across the State. The radar network will enable continuous surveillance of weather systems and provide detailed information on precipitation, wind patterns, and storm intensity. This infrastructure will significantly strengthen early detection and tracking of high-impact events such as heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, squalls, and lightning — thereby improving short-range forecasting and weather-based early warning services in Bihar.

03 — Seismic Safety
Bihar Mausam Sewa Kendra

Bihar Mausam Sewa Kendra proposes to establish a State-wide Earthquake Monitoring System by installing modern seismic instruments — including Broadband Seismographs and Strong Motion Accelerographs — at ten strategically selected locations across the State. These stations will be connected through VSAT-enabled telemetric communication to a Central Receiving Station in Patna, facilitating real-time seismic data acquisition. The system will support earthquake monitoring, micro-seismicity studies, and planning of area-specific seismic hazard mitigation measures.
